17 Step By Step Guide, How To Read A Birth Chart

17 Step By Step Guide, How To Read A Birth Chart

Here are some steps to learn how to read a Birth Chart. This can take years to fully learn how to read a chart and make sense of it but we all must start somewhere! I recommend investing in an Astrologer as a mentor or you can take some classes to get more equipped with the subject. Below I have attached my 'How To Read A Birth Chart' Class which can be downloaded to your device immediately after you make a purchase. There are over 112 pages packed with case studies.

Step 1: Gather the necessary information Before you can begin interpreting a birth chart, you'll need to gather some information. You'll need to know the person's date, time, and place of birth in order to generate an accurate chart.

Step 2: Generate the chart Once you have the necessary information, you can use a software or website that can generate a birth chart based on that data. There are several free websites that can generate a birth chart, including AstroSeek and, Astrodienst.

Step 3: Identify the basic elements When you first look at a birth chart, it can be overwhelming. But don't worry! The chart is made up of several basic elements that you can identify and understand. The most important elements of the birth chart are the zodiac signs, the houses, and the planets.

Step 4: Understand the zodiac signs The zodiac signs represent the different qualities and characteristics that a person possesses. There are 12 zodiac signs, each corresponding to a different month of the year. Each sign is associated with a particular element (earth, air, fire, or water) and a particular mode (cardinal, fixed, or mutable).

Step 5: Understand the houses The houses represent different areas of a person's life, such as career, relationships, and home life. There are 12 houses, each corresponding to a different area of life.

Step 6: Understand the planets The planets represent different energies and influences that a person experiences. There are 10 planets (including the Sun and Moon), each with its own unique energy and influence.

Step 7: Interpret the chart Once you understand the basic elements of the chart, you can begin interpreting it. Look for patterns and connections between the zodiac signs, houses, and planets. Pay attention to any planets that are in their own sign or in a sign that they rule, as these planets will have a stronger influence. Also, look for any planets that are in close proximity to each other, as these planets will have a stronger influence on each other.

Step 8: Consider the aspects In addition to the basic elements of the chart, you'll also want to consider the aspects. Aspects are the angles that the planets make to each other. Some aspects are harmonious (such as trines and sextile's), while others are challenging (such as squares and oppositions). Consider the aspects between the planets in the chart to gain a deeper understanding of how the different energies and influences are interacting with each other.

Remember, interpreting a birth chart is a complex process that takes time and practice. Don't be afraid to consult with an experienced astrologer or to do additional research to deepen your understanding of astrology.

Step 9: Identify the Ascendant and the Midheaven The Ascendant, also known as the rising sign, is the zodiac sign that was on the eastern horizon at the time of birth. It represents the person's outer personality and how they present themselves to the world. The Midheaven, also known as the MC or Medium Coeli, is the point at the top of the chart that represents the person's career and public image.

Step 10: Consider the chart ruler The chart ruler is the planet that rules the zodiac sign on the Ascendant. It is an important planet in the chart as it represents the person's chart themes and what is most important to them.

Step 11: Look at the chart shape and elements The chart shape and elements can give you an idea of the overall balance of the chart. A balanced chart will have planets spread out evenly across the chart, while an unbalanced chart will have a concentration of planets in one area. The chart elements (fire, earth, air, and water) can also give you an idea of the person's temperament and personality traits.

Step 12: Consider the chart's major configurations The birth chart may have major configurations, such as a stellium (a group of planets in the same sign), a grand trine (three planets forming an equilateral triangle), or a T-square (three planets forming a right triangle with two challenging aspects). These configurations can give you insights into the person's strengths, challenges, and life themes.

Step 13: Synthesise your findings Once you have looked at all of the individual elements of the chart, it's time to synthesise your findings. Look for patterns, themes, and connections between the different elements. Consider how the planets, signs, and houses are working together to shape the person's life and personality.

Step 14: Use your intuition Finally, remember to trust your intuition when interpreting a birth chart. While astrology is based on scientific principles, it is also an art. Use your intuition to guide you as you interpret the chart and look for deeper insights into the person's life and personality.

Step 15: Offer insights and recommendations Once you have completed your interpretation, you can offer insights and recommendations to the person whose chart you have read. Consider how the chart's strengths and challenges may be affecting their life, and offer suggestions for how they can work with the energies in their chart to achieve their goals and live a more fulfilling life.

Step 16: Keep learning and practicing Reading a birth chart is a complex process, and it takes time and practice to become proficient. Keep learning about astrology and practicing your skills. Consult with experienced astrologers and attend workshops and classes to deepen your understanding of this fascinating field. The more charts you read, the more you'll notice patterns which will be included within your research.

Step 17: Respect the person's privacy Remember that the birth chart is a deeply personal document, and the information it contains should be treated with respect and confidentiality. Only share your interpretation with the person whose chart you have read, and be mindful of their boundaries and privacy. It is important not to share your clients details publicly without permission. We also do not recommend talking about death or answering questions about whether someone is going to die as this is triggering and extremely dangerous.
