Interceptions is one of the many reasons why my preference when reading natal charts is always placidus system, because there is so much that can be discovered with interceptions. While all the signs within the Zodiac maintain a uniform size of 30 degrees each, the variability lies in the sizes of Astrology Houses, unless you use Equal House system. The calculation of houses and angles in a birth chart is based on the Earth's axis, causing variations in house sizes to escalate with distance from the Equator.
Consequently, some signs in a horoscope may experience interceptions, a phenomenon where a house exceeds 30 degrees and completely encompasses an entire sign. In simpler terms, an interception occurs when a house extends beyond the standard 30 degrees and envelops an entire sign, preventing its appearance at the beginning of any house.
It's essential to clarify that having two signs within a single house, a common occurrence in every chart, does not constitute an interception. A true interception transpires only when there are at least two houses, each accommodating three signs.

Interception Significance
What does it signify when signs are intercepted in your astrological chart? Essentially, it suggests that accessing and expressing the qualities of that particular sign might pose challenges. Although the sign is present in your chart, its visibility is obscured.
In such instances, the characteristics represented by intercepted signs may become confined, suppressed, and may manifest inappropriately. To mitigate this, it is crucial to be aware of these interceptions and address them consciously. Frequently, the expression of these intercepted signs tends to manifest through their shadow aspects or lower energy levels. I usually tell my clients they need to manually activate the interceptions.
This tendency aligns with the common experience of frustration, where the inability to clearly express these intercepted signs leads to bottled-up emotions and on going frustrations throughout life. For instance, an intercepted Aries may result in dealing with the affairs of that house through aggression, frustration, and impatience. This could be rooted in a history of difficulty asserting oneself or prolonged periods of inaction and daydreaming.
On the flip side, an intercepted Libra on the opposite side of the chart might encounter challenges in forming balanced partnerships, with excessive criticism or martyrdom hindering the process.
Intercepted Houses
It's important to remember that intercepted houses are where we tend to feel held back throughout our lives. I make my clients aware of it, and I encourage them to accept it. There are ways to work with the intercepted houses to make life easier along the way. Let go of the pressure for this house to move quickly. It's a lifelong journey to figure out a way forward that works for you! What may work for you may not work for others and that is okay!
Intercepted 1st House and 7th House: Challenges arise in forming initial impressions and maintaining successful partnerships. The focal points of concern involve how you "present" yourself (1st house) and navigate relationships (7th house). The specific problematic aspects can be discerned by examining the intercepted signs in these houses. There is usually some contributing aspects to the Sun, the Ascendant, and possibly some issues with aries in the chart or Aries and Libra placements within interpersonal relationships.
Intercepted 2nd House and 8th House: Addressing your relationship with money, possessions, personal values, and, crucially, enhancing your sense of self-worth becomes imperative. The areas of concern extend to your attitudes toward sex and sexuality, as well as your connection to the values upheld by the various groups to which you belong. Additionally, complications may arise concerning the values of others, inheritance, taxes, or insurance. It's essential to focus on rectifying these aspects for personal growth and a more harmonious financial and relational outlook.
Intercepted 3rd and 9th House: Challenges manifest in areas governed by the 3rd house, such as communication, transportation, learning and local neighbourhood. Early education and relationships with siblings may encounter difficulties. Problems extend to communication and transportation issues, as well as potential obstacles in education and relationships with siblings%u2014issues encompassed by both houses. The 9th house, overseeing religion, belief systems, voyages, foreign matters, higher education, and scholarly individuals, is also affected.
Intercepted 4th and 10th House: Issues emerge concerning parental dynamics and authority figures, encompassing realms associated with real estate and matters of the home. While parental challenges are commonplace, difficulties may extend to general home life and all aspects linked to domestic real estate. Early parental challenges might resurface later in life, influencing relationships with authority figures and creating career-related hurdles, shaping public perception of you.
Intercepted 5th and 11th House: Obstacles arise in the area of creativity and self-expression, coupled with challenges in relating to children or fostering a sense of enjoyment. Letting loose and embracing fun may prove to be challenging. The 11th house, governing hopes, wishes, networks, friends, and society at large, also experiences disruptions. There can be issues relating with groups of people and allowing yourself to express yourself around them.
Intercepted 6th and 12th House: Complications arise when overseeing others, dealing with health matters, or managing issues related to pets. An intercepted sixth house signals potential challenges in work, relationships with colleagues and subordinates, the service you can provide, and your overall health. The 12th house brings difficulties related to self-sabotage, hidden adversaries, or dealings with institutions. It also points to subtle indicators of problems within your subconscious.
Intercepted Aries & Libra
Intercepted Aries: Whether through excessive giving or taking, there's a struggle to discern rightful boundaries due to a lack of understanding about personal and shared domains. Typically, it tends towards excessive giving, rooted in early development where the assertive Aries nature of claiming one's possessions was not instilled. The absence of personal ownership fuels a genuine desire for self-discovery and the creation of something exclusively one's own.
Intercepted Libra: With the interception of the opposite sign, Libra, there's a compelling yearning for relationships that were somehow missed in your past. This stems from a deep-seated sense of unworthiness of another's love, rooted in the failure to fully embrace your own identity as exemplified by Aries. This Aries deficiency breeds internal insecurities that hinder the ability to wholeheartedly offer oneself to others. Focusing on personal growth becomes pivotal, paving the way for a genuine connection with someone who appreciates you for the person you already are.
Intercepted Taurus & Scorpio
Intercepted Taurus: The absence of Taurus in your developmental influences signifies a lack of guidance on maintaining steadfast opinions and indulging in the comfort of pleasant surroundings. The potential scarcity of love, particularly as Taurus is governed by Venus, may have left you yearning for acknowledgment and appreciation. Your sense of security may have been compromised early on, fostering uncertainty and a diminished sense of self-worth. As you progress in life, the key lies in forging a deeper connection with yourself and cultivating a robust sense of self-love.
Intercepted Scorpio: The non-inclusion of Scorpio in your chart translates to a reluctance to delve into the profound solitude and the mysterious realms within yourself. In the absence of love and validation, as indicated by the missing Taurus influence, compensatory mechanisms may lead you to avoid confronting feelings of loss. Coping with the departure of things and people becomes challenging for an intercepted Scorpio, creating a prolonged state of emotional limbo. However, the pathway to resolution involves a full immersion into the complexities of love and loss, reassuring intercepted individuals that they ultimately discover what they seek in life.
My personal experience: I have this interception in the 12th and 6th house. I grew up always being told that having money wasn't for me. The lack of money in my household meant we were not secure. Money is something to save and not invest. I was never taught any financial skills. I was taught not to embrace the things that were deep and psychological.
Intercepted Gemini & Sagittarius
Intercepted Gemini: Having an intercepted Gemini implies that the freedom to express oneself verbally may feel like an exclusive privilege granted to others during childhood. Over time and with age, the challenge lies in overcoming self-imposed constraints on vocalizing thoughts. As you mature, you may realize that it is often your own reservations that hinder you from expressing your ideas, as those around you have eagerly awaited your voice. Recognizing that some individuals may obstruct others to maintain unquestioned dominance doesn't have to dictate your path any longer.
Intercepted Sagittarius: Those with a Sagittarius interception may initially struggle to deviate from the predetermined and conventional trajectory set for them. Yet, beneath the surface, there exists a covert and subconscious desire to break free, leading to abrupt departures that bewilder those in their midst. As an adult, you might find yourself constantly in pursuit of truth, driven by an insatiable fascination with the enchanting world you consider your home.
Intercepted Cancer & Capricorn
Intercepted Cancer: In the presence of an intercepted Cancer house, the nurturing and emotional connections vital for your development were notably absent. Consequently, there's a tendency to recoil from hugs, cuddles, and any attempts to create warmth around you, reflecting the lack of such experiences at home. The expression of feelings and emotions may feel challenging, as you were conditioned to "conceal your feelings" and avoid outward displays of emotion. It's time to break free from these constraints and embrace the authenticity of your emotions.
Intercepted Capricorn: With Capricorn intercepted and the innate ability to feel (Cancer) hindered, there's a pervasive sense of powerlessness, making it difficult to intuitively navigate towards success. The reluctance to believe in your capacity to build an empire and assert strength may stem from a fear of failure and a tendency to prioritize putting on a happy façade. However, prioritizing your own happiness and mental well-being is essential—recognize your inherent worth and take steps to empower yourself without fear of potential setbacks.
Intercepted Leo & Aquarius
Intercepted Leo: In a symbolic sense Leo, the majestic lion, embodies kingship, yet with Leo intercepted, it's as if you cannot reign over any particular domain in your chart. Its like you have been caged. Similarly to a lion. The teachings you received didn't include how to unleash a mighty roar, embrace inner strength, or wield a healthy ego. Messages suggesting it's impractical to shine above others and the perception that you didn't merit praise as effortlessly as others have left an unconscious yearning for acknowledgment. Consequently, as an adult, the quest for attention becomes a means to gratify your ego.
Intercepted Aquarius: With Aquarius intercepted, the challenge lies in expressing rebellion or presenting original ideas to the world. Having invested considerable effort in creating for mainstream acceptance, facing rejection intensifies the reluctance to share your uniqueness and showcase your authenticity. Aquarius, often associated with the water-bearer bringing aid to those in need, faces difficulty when questioning personal worth. If you perceive yourself as having little value, how can you offer anything meaningful to those less fortunate? Overcoming this perception is crucial to unlocking the potential to contribute valuable ideas and originality to the world.
Intercepted Virgo & Pisces
Intercepted Virgo: The interception of Virgo introduces an absence of the mundane, routine, and order in your upbringing. Perhaps your parents were okay with you staying up till late with little regard for impending school commitments, and the enforcement of academic responsibilities may not have been a priority in your household. Consequently, establishing structure and adhering to routines proves challenging, yet paradoxically, you find yourself bound by habits, some of which may not be productive to your well-being. Denied the guidance of a disciplined routine, you forged your own survival strategies, leading to the creation of sometimes unconventional habits. As you mature, the realisation of the absurdity of these routines dawns, yet breaking free from the early-established habits proves to be a challenging task, no matter how simple they may seem.
Intercepted Pisces: The challenge of lacking structure coming from Virgo, then leads to challenges with sleep and dreams! Hindering the ability to engage in meaningful dreams. Dreams, in this context, serve as metaphors for ambition, creativity, and optimism, which become elusive when consumed by the chaos of day-to-day activities. Amidst the hustle, finding time for contemplation becomes a luxury, and the pursuit of spiritual fulfillment is postponed. As an adult, you find yourself not only chasing seemingly unattainable dreams but also seeking enlightenment from external sources, be it a higher power, a guru, or any guiding force, as the internal compass for self-guidance appears elusive.
Intercepted Planets
Intercepted Sun: Recognition and acknowledgment for your ego, self expression, and overall being were withheld, creating a sense that self-praise is met with accusations of vanity. Expressing self-love often invites rejection and spite from others. Additionally, the Sun's association with the father figure suggests a potential lack of a close relationship with your dad, whether in a literal or figurative sense. The interception can cause issues with connecting to your soul's purpose and in reference to finding your true career purpose.
Intercepted Moon: Your emotional nature experienced denial, making it challenging to access your true feelings. Even attempting to do so, feels unnatural or completely foreign. The Moon, symbolising the mother figure, indicates a difficulty in connecting with your mother. Despite her efforts, or lack thereof, there may be a persistent sense that your emotional needs were not adequately met. This is important to explore and understand as this can harbor issued relating to women or people you desire closeness from in your interpersonal relationships. You may need to work on your intimacy issues and may suffer from emotional avoidance.
Intercepted Mercury: Instilling belief in your intellectual abilities and the validity of your words proves exceedingly challenging. Perhaps you were unfairly labeled as unintelligent, even when it contradicted the truth. Close individuals during your formative years might have deceived you or discouraged independent thought. Despite these obstacles, your unwavering commitment to seeking truth and prioritising honesty remains a defining characteristic. I personally have Mercury intercepted in my 12th house. I remember being put into education with additional support and the teacher there was confused why I was there as she felt I did not belong there. My reading and writing skills were strong enough. However they didn't know what to do with me. I performed strong in certain areas more than others which later contributed to insecurities within my intellectual abilities. How i manage this is by not giving up by learning how i process information best.
Intercepted Venus: Having Venus intercepted suggests a complex relationship with love, affection, and self-confidence. Individuals with this interception may feel that love, whether from their parents or in romantic relationships, didn't fully connect or resonate with them. Sometimes individuals can experience not seeing their parents love each other or other partners yet complain about the lack of love leading to not loving you the way you desire. There could be a sense of not being conceived or raised in an environment filled with love, leading to challenges in forming healthy connections and expressing self-confidence. Despite these hurdles, finding solace in self-love becomes essential for navigating the complexities associated with Venus interception. This can cause issues with your interpersonal relationships. A fear of not being liked enough, popularity issues.
Intercepted Mars: Having intercepted Mars suggests that the normal expression and manifestation of Mars energy are obstructed or veiled. Mars is associated with assertiveness, drive, ambition, direction and how one pursues goals. When intercepted, individuals may face challenges in expressing their desires, taking decisive actions, or asserting themselves effectively. There could be a sense of internal conflict, a difficulty in understanding personal motivations, or a struggle to identify and pursue individual goals. Overcoming these challenges often requires conscious awareness, self-reflection, and intentional efforts to cultivate assertiveness and clarity in pursuing one's objectives. We usually see someone who has a Taurus, Pisces or Libra Mars or perhaps retrograde mars which contributes to the difficulty in directness. This is common for Aries Rising or an intercepted 1st house. This can lead to an identity issue.
Intercepted Jupiter: The lack of guidance has left you uncertain about which path to take to achieve that elusive "lucky break." Jupiter, often perceived as luck, is essentially an exploration of your potential for expansion. Unfortunately, you feel unable to tap into it leaving you pessimistic, leading to a perception of being the unluckiest person. Strangely, those close to you appear to experience luck by association, often due to their individual connections to your Jupiter. Discovering someone who reciprocates optimism can unlock the untapped potential Jupiter holds, offering the chance for personal growth and success. I recommend learning and using the laws of attraction to fully tap in.
Intercepted Saturn: Balancing karmic lessons can make you feel utterly powerless, especially when the roots of your challenges remain elusive. Saturn symbolises authoritative figures in your life, and its interception may be linked to confusion caused by inconsistent life guidance from those responsible for teaching right from wrong. To navigate Saturn's karmic intricacies, adopting a patient and easygoing approach is crucial for unraveling the complexities and understanding how to address your Saturn-related challenges.
Intercepted Uranus: Uranus, characterised by its unconventional and rebellious nature, may lead others to perceive you as a rebel even when you strive not to be. Your efforts to conform to societal norms stem from a lack of understanding about what it truly means to embrace individuality. Liberating your unique self into the world becomes essential for gaining control over your rebellious nature, enabling you to wield it effectively and bring about positive changes in areas you find displeasing.
Intercepted Neptune: The absence of Neptune in your chart leaves you feeling as if dreaming or trusting your intuition is an elusive concept. It's possible that you were never guided to explore this aspect of yourself, perhaps facing discouragement or criticism when your thoughts ventured into the realm of "wild ideas." Granting yourself permission to believe in love, optimism, and the notion that the universe has a unique purpose for you becomes crucial. By embracing these beliefs, you can tap into the power of Neptune and awaken your ability to dream.
Intercepted Pluto: Pluto, linked to control, death, and transformation, may make you feel powerless in the face of others' influence. Although a profound desire for transformation exists within you, the prospect might seem daunting. The darkness within, often avoided, holds the key to unlocking your inner demons and facilitating transformative experiences. Confronting and navigating this darkness, however challenging, becomes essential for your personal growth and evolution. Personally this is a planet I have intercepted. When I was young I wasn't able to tap into my Pluto strength and was always put into situations where I felt out of control. As I grew, I developed a strong sense of power by essentially being less predictable and setting firm boundaries with people which helped me in my interpersonal relationships.
Intercepted Chiron: When Chiron is intercepted, there may be difficulties in acknowledging and addressing personal wounds. It could indicate a tendency to internalise pain, making it challenging to access the healing potential that Chiron represents. Individuals with intercepted Chiron may find it more difficult to embrace and work through their own vulnerabilities, and they might experience hurdles in offering healing to others or deriving wisdom from their own life challenges. Addressing intercepted Chiron often involves conscious efforts to explore and accept one's emotional and spiritual wounds, seeking methods of self-healing, and potentially working with others to share and learn from these experiences. It's an invitation to bring awareness to areas of vulnerability and transform them into sources of strength and insight.
North and South Node Intercepted: When the North Node is intercepted, it suggests that the individual may face challenges in expressing and manifesting the qualities associated with the North Node in their life. The North Node represents the qualities and experiences that one is encouraged to develop in the current lifetime. Its interception may indicate that the person needs to work harder to align with their life path and purpose. Conversely, when the South Node is intercepted, it suggests that the individual may encounter challenges in releasing or moving away from the qualities associated with the South Node. The South Node represents past experiences, often comfortable but not necessarily conducive to growth in the current life. Intercepted South Node may indicate a struggle to let go of patterns or behaviors that are holding the individual back from personal evolution.
Intercepted Nodes emphasise the importance of conscious effort and self-awareness to navigate the karmic lessons associated with these points. The individual may need to work on integrating the qualities of the Nodes, striving to move toward the North Node's qualities while gradually releasing the more familiar patterns of the South Node.
